There is no better speed for seeing the Sinai desert than a camel's. This one-day camel trek from Dahab pairs an hour's ride each way with a canyon hike and a fresh desert lunch — led, as all our journeys are, by Joseph and Annet together, with a local Bedouin camel guide and his camels alongside.
Pickup & the ride out
We collect you from your hotel in Dahab at 8:00 and drive inland to Wadi Ghazalah, where your camel and camel guide are waiting. The ride to the mouth of Hamata Canyon takes about an hour — enough time to settle into the camel's rhythm and let the desert take over.
Hiking Hamata Canyon & desert lunch
We leave the camels at the canyon entrance and hike through Hamata Canyon on foot — about an hour of walking through winding sandstone, with some small rock steps along the way. After the hike, a fresh desert lunch is prepared by our special desert chef and eaten out in the open.
The first ten minutes in the saddle feel unusual; after that, most people don't want to get off.
Time to wander & the ride back
After lunch there's unhurried time to walk around, take photographs, or simply sit in the quiet before the ride back — about an hour by camel to the road, with the light changing over the sandstone, then roughly an hour by car back to Dahab.
