Are you an archaeologist?

Research-minded support, handled responsibly.

Field access is permission — not a product

Desert & River is first and foremost a guiding practice built on long-term Bedouin relationships, permits, and duty of care. We take the protection of sites and communities seriously. If you are an archaeologist, historian, or researcher, we can discuss whether support is appropriate — and what is realistically possible.

We do not advertise sensitive locations, “ancient secrets”, or unpermitted routes. Our default posture is restraint: what is not shared can be part of what keeps a place intact.

What we can help with

  • Local logistics planning (routes, terrain, timing, resupply)
  • Field safety and conservative risk management
  • Connecting respectfully with local communities (when appropriate)
  • Low-impact travel design and camp practices
  • Practical guidance on realistic access and seasonality

What we don’t do

  • Unpermitted site access or “access-for-sale” behaviour
  • Broadcasting locations that should remain protected
  • Rushing work on a tourist-style schedule

Note

Any research activity must comply with applicable Egyptian regulations, permits, and local permissions. We will always prioritise protection of land and relationships.
